2,2-Dipicolylamine (DPA) based receptors detect Zn2+ with high fidelity. This work shows that attachment of DPA via a thiocarbamate linkage turns it into a highly selective sensor for Ag+. The sensor also displays an interesting aggregation induced emission behavior although it is devoid of any rotor-like motif. At high concentration of Ag, the aggregates disintegrate.
